Accounting Manager

c£65,000 per annum

Our client is experiencing an exciting period of growth and is looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee their busy and friendly team.

The successful candidate will be dealing with technical accounting and VAT issues, reviewing VAT returns, management accounts and other reports prepared for clients and recommending and implementing best accounting practices for efficient and accurate processing of information to required deadlines. Support is available however, it is expected that basic bookkeeping functions and processing, including analysis of transactions, will be done with minimal support.

So what could a typical day consist of?

• Maintaining and updating client’s accounting records (mainly on Xero software)
• Accurately preparing VAT Returns and obtaining the necessary information to allow VAT returns to be submitted before the submission deadline
• Preparing Management Accounts as and when required and ensuring they are prepared and reviewed by the reporting deadline
• Liaise with other managers and directors to ensure the smooth flow of work
• Co-ordinate with other specialists in the firm to assist with specific projects as applicable and provide joined-up solutions for clients
• Supervise a team of 6-8 Accountants supporting staff members to allow them to resolve technical and other questions; and of the client so they receive premium service
• Communication with team members, the director and the client, so that requirements and timeframes are universally understood
• Manage members of the outsourced accounting team as they prepare VAT returns, management accounts and cashflow forecasts, focusing on quality control - the application of the relevant reporting standards and VAT regulations
• Oversee the department work schedule to ensure work is allocated appropriately across the team
• Co-ordinate with other specialists in the firm to assist with specific projects as applicable and provide joined-up solutions for clients

The Accounting Manager role is mainly office-based, however, there could be occasions when you may be required to travel to client premises.

What do you want from me?

• Previous experience of bookkeeping and preparation of VAT Returns - essential
• A good basic knowledge of VAT - essential
• AAT Accounting or bookkeeping qualification - advantageous, will also consider part qualified
• Experience of Xero Cloud Accounting Software - advantageous but not essential
• Sage Line 50, Microsoft Excel & Word, Quick Books and other accounting software - advantageous
• Good effective communication skills
• Ability and self-discipline to work efficiently and effectively toward meeting VAT return submission deadlines
• Management Accounts experience – not essential
• Possess excellent attention to detail
• Ability to develop and maintain client and colleague relationships
• Ability to display good verbal and written communication skills
• Have a positive, enthusiastic approach to work
• Proven leadership experience
