Zoho vs Microsoft – Which one is better for your business?

We’ve covered what The Cloud is and why it was so critical to businesses continuity during this pandemic. This week, we going to delve deeper into Cloud business applications by looking at two major players in this field: Zoho and Microsoft.

A brief history of Microsoft

Microsoft has been around since the ’70s and is one of the most used computer application providers around. In fact, according to Computer World, an astonishing 66.7% of us use Windows instead of any other OS, such as Apple. 


As well as Windows, Microsoft also owns the market share of users that use their Office suite applications. I’m sure you are all aware of at least one of their applications such as Teams, Word and Excel. 

And what about Zoho?

Simpson Dean does use Microsoft Office applications, however, our default cloud solution provider is Zoho. They started in 1997 and are the relatively new kid on the block. However, the rate which they are developing their businesses tools, the quickly catching up to the big boys.

Whiles not as commonly used as Office 365 they do offer an impressive catalogue businesses tools. Especially for small-medium sized businesses looking to cash-in on the benefits of agile working.

For almost each MS Office application, there is a similar Zoho app. Microsoft Word is Zoho Writer, Excel is Sheet and Teams is Cliq.  

Why did we choose Zoho over Microsoft?

Microsoft 365 we feel is aimed towards the larger businesses and enterprises. Companies with many employees and an internet department that can help with the deployment of its applications. It can get a little daunting trying to manage Microsofts security settings and user profiles if you don’t know what you are doing.

Zoho provides an easy to use user interface, which was easy to setup. But critically, for our business, it offered a 365 recruitment solution capable of allowing us to track our clients, jobs and candidates.  

If you are a small business with limited IT resources or know-how, Zoho is our recommendation.  

Tell me a bit more about Zoho

Zoho One starts from £30/user/month and gives you fully licensed access to all of their 40+ business applications.  If you are only going to use one or two of their applications, you can also purchase licenses for individual apps. From within the Zoho One dashboard, you can add or remove applications from your organisation and manage default settings.

Zoho is continuously striving to improve their applications and service offering, which is visible with the number of useful new features they release regularly.
